The EQE SUV can articulate its rear wheels up to 10 degrees, which creates a much more agile SUV and a tighter turning circle, aiding maneuverability on both twisty mountain roads and tight city streets. Given the EQE SUV shares its platform with the EQE Sedan, it features a lot of the same mechanical bits and gee-whiz features of that model, such as the remarkable rear-wheel steering (an option on some versions of the EQE SUV). We don’t have any range numbers for these varying models that will be coming closer to launch. The AMG EQE uses a dual-motor system and AWD to reach 617 hp or 677 hp with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package with Boost function. Want even more performance than that? You’ll have to wait for the upcoming EQE AMG, which will arrive shortly after the regular EQE SUVs. Opting for some performance means going with the EQE500 SUV, which pumps up those two motors for a system output of 536 hp and 633 pounds-feet of torque, dropping the 0-60 mph time to just 4.6 seconds. Stepping up to the 350 4Matic will get you a second motor driving the front axle for all-wheel-drive capability it delivers a total of 288 hp and 564 pounds-feet of torque for a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds. The 350 Plus uses a single motor mounted on the rear axle to deliver 288 system horsepower and 417 pounds-feet of torque, which is good for a 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds, according to Mercedes. Where the models will differ is in their drivetrain configurations. All models will feature a 90.6- kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, which should be good to charge in less than 10 hours from 10%-100% on a 240-volt, 32-amp Level 2 circuit or in about 32 minutes to go from 10%-80% on a DC fast-charging system at up to 170 kilowatts. When it arrives, the EQE SUV will be available in four trim levels: the EQE350 Plus, EQE350 4Matic, EQE500 4Matic and late-arriving AMG EQE. It’s an interesting combination of the EQ front end and the more traditional, upright two-box look that a typical SUV requires. Park an EQE SUV next to a GLE and the family resemblance is clear. Just like the EQS SUV, it looks far more conventional than the swoopy, cab-forward sedans with their polarizing lines and compromised headroom.
